Tokyo Food Guide
These are my favorite places but there are LOTS more. Suggestion: If Google Maps is no help, call the restaurant and ask them to fax or text you a map so you can find the place easily.
Chinese
Ni Hao 3465-0747. Best gyoza in Tokyo, and that's a big claim. A bit far from anything
in Yoyogi area.
* Chugoku Hanten Across from Roppongi Hills. Delicious. Also, its sister Fureika is spectacular.
French and Nouvelle
Le Sample 5774-5760. Our friends Koh and Aki run it. Japanese French, no menu, just leave it to them, amazing.
* Tableaux 5489-2201. Daikanyama. Like an adult French-Japanese young date set.
* Izakaya Vin 3461-9764 Dogenzaka 1-5-7.
Shibuya station. Incredible wines, weak decor, not far from the station.
Tsubaki Nishi-Azabu 4-11-9. Ask for downstairs table. Warn them not to hurt you with expensive wines.
Italian
La Bisboccia 3449-1470.
Appia
3444-5801, expensive. Both of these places are near Tengenji-bashi at the edge of Hiroo. Both
great but more celebrities at Appia.
Japanese
* Umenohana 3475-8077. Everything in tofu. Go at 5:30pm or wait a month.
Yanmo 5466-0636. Omotesando.
Korean
Soushian Nishi-Azabu.
Soba
Sunaba Honten 3583-7670. I love this place, which was in the movie Tampopo.
Matsugen 3457-5690. Trendy architecture in Moto-Azabu.
Toshian:
Shirogane classic. Shibui and austere.
Sukiyaki
Sukiyaki Okahan: Ginza
3571-1417, also New Otani Hotel. Kimono-clad service.
Sushi
Tempura
Miyakawa 3400-5541. Fabulous Omotesando counter place across from the Nezu Museum.
Other
Kanemasu
Stand and eat incredible kaiseki with big portions (for Japan)! Go at 4pm or wait
for hours. Weird.
Bars and Cafes
Den Aquarium Bar. Incredible fish.
Teeze, a library cafe near Nishi-Azabu crossing.
Blue Point 3280-2020. Outdoor sunny afternoon or brunch in Shirogane. A scene.
